“In times of stress, the best thing we can do for each other is to listen with our ears and with our hearts and to be assured that our questions are just as important as our answers.”
— Fred Rogers
With the high rate of overdoses and health issues in West Virginia, and our area, many children are left without parents to raise them. Family members step in and many are being raised by grandparents who may have health issues of their own. So whether a child has lost a parent, grandparent, sibling, close friend or anyone special to them, they all will grieve. Death has a way of changing a child’s world immediately, and they are barraged with emotions that they do not understand. They need support to survive this critical time, and know that theyare not alone in their grief.
By meeting with children in their own age group, they can realize that there is nothing wrong with them and the way they are feeling. They learn that others have the same feelings…and together they can work to understand them and be able to cope, now and in their future.
The relationships they form can be invaluable to their futures.
